When you think of smartphone manufacturers, HTC is one of the first names that comes to mind. Founded on May 15, 1997, it’s clear that HTC have made a huge footprint in the sand when it comes to the evolution of the smartphone – and now they’ve opted to show us how far they’ve come.

An HTC executive has confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the company has sold 5 million HTC One handsets since the device went on sale back in March. That’s not quite the same level of demand Samsung has seen for the Galaxy S4, but it’s still a very good number.

Furthermore, the unnamed executive says demand is still so strong that it is struggling to keep up with orders.

HTC has this morning announced the new Desire 600, its second smartphone with the latest Sense 5 user interface. The Taiwanese company is aiming the device at the “mid-range market,” but it boasts some pretty high-end specifications, including a quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera.

It also delivers a number of features that debuted with the flagship HTC One.

Galaxy-S4-half

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has dethroned the LG Optimus G to become Consumer Reports’ new top-rated smartphone.

It “delivered top-notch performance in the most critical areas of our tests, including the camera,” the report reads, before praising the handset’s display, and its “gesture- and sensor-based tools.”

HTC-First

Facebook Home hasn’t been doing too hot lately. First there was the news that Facebook Home has been a dud in the Google Play store, and now we’ve just learned that AT&T is already going to discontinue the HTC First.

The HTC First was the first and only smartphone to feature Facebook’s new Home interface baked into the OS. The smartphone just debuted on AT&T last month, but it’s already getting tossed out of stores.
