The Galaxy S4 Is Consumer Reports’ New Top-Rated Smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has dethroned the LG Optimus G to become Consumer Reports’ new top-rated smartphone.

It “delivered top-notch performance in the most critical areas of our tests, including the camera,” the report reads, before praising the handset’s display, and its “gesture- and sensor-based tools.”

Consumer Reports highlights the Galaxy S4’s ability to run two apps side-by-side simultaneously, its built-in infrared blaster, and its sensitive touchscreen that allows you to use the device with gloves on.

It also noted, however, that the handset’s battery life and voice quality “varied slightly between cell carriers, as with the LG Optimus G.”

Not all Galaxy S4 reviews agree with the findings of Consumer Reports, of course. We did a review roundup back in March and found that while the device received plenty of praise for its internal specifications, many felt its plastic build quality was a disappointment, and many of its software features a gimmick.

The Galaxy S4 is certainly a “top-notch” smartphone, as Consumer Reports puts it, but whether it’s the world’s best depends on what’s most important to you in a smartphone.
