Motorola’s Moto X might not have met with as much success as the company may have hoped for, even after receiving critical acclaim from many. Despite being 10 months old, the Moto X is an excellent handset with some unique features like Active Display and always-on voice recognition that makes it stand out from the latest high-end flagships from Samsung, Sony and HTC.

If you were waiting for an excellent deal to get your hands on the Moto X, now might just be the time as the company is offering the unlocked retail version of the handset for only $299 this mother’s day (i.e. today).

motorola-invite

After disrupting the market with the Moto G and Moto X last year, Motorola is all set to announce its first smartphone this year. The company has sent out invites for an event to be held on May 13th in London.

Don’t get all excited about a Moto X successor though. The invite image states that the smartphone is “made to last” and “priced for all” — a clear indication that it is going to be a low-end handset.

Nexus-4-smashed

I can’t wait to get my hands on the OnePlus One. Its design and specifications make it one of the most exciting smartphones we’ve seen this year; it’s equipped to compete with rivals like the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. In addition, it’s a steal at $299.

But we know it’s not going to be easy to get hold of one — at least not initially.

You may be tempted to take part in the OnePlus “Smash the Past” competition that gives you the chance to win the new device by smashing up your old one, then — but it’s a downright stupid idea, and you shouldn’t even think about taking part.

Motorola took everyone by surprise last year by releasing the Moto X and the Moto G, both of which ran near-stock Android. For the first time in Android history, an OEM actually decided to make meaningful additions to the Android skin instead of adding its own skin on top to “differentiate” its product from the competition.

However, after Lenovo purchased Motorola earlier this year, most people started wondering if Motorola again release a handset running near-stock Android.

G-Watch-water-resistant

LG’s upcoming G Watch will be one of a small few smartwatches that never goes to sleep, the Korean company has teased on its website. The device’s “always-on” display will allow users to view the time, weather, and incoming notifications without having to wake it up first.
