Android is trouncing iOS for overall downloads, says the latest report from mobile data firm App Annie. The report says, however, that when it comes to forking over cash, iOS rules.

There are more key take aways from the data which bring to light the functional differences of the two app stores and the categories and countries that are driving the continuing growth in the sector.

Flickr for Android is now even more beautiful thanks to a major new update that’s rolling out via Google Play today. In addition to its new design, the app has been completely rebuilt to make taking, editing, and uploading your photos even easier.

Following a fortnight of rumors and speculation, Google has now uploaded it’s official Camera application to the Play Store, much to our surprise we’re seeing a completely redesigned user interface, along with an array of new effects, high resolution panoramas and a nifty 100% viewfinder.

Google updated its Chrome Beta app for Android this week, adding support for Chromecast streaming and a new feature that lets you undo closed tabs — making it quick and easy to go back to webpages you accidentally closed.

Jesse Carter, the Android developer who scammed tens of thousands of users with a fake antivirus app, has admitted he made a “foolish mistake.”

Using the name Deviant Solutions, Carter released the Virus Shield app that promised to protect smartphones and tablets from dangerous files. It was priced at $3.99 and quickly rocketed to the top of the Google Play Store’s paid chart after attracting over 30,000 downloads.

The only problem was, Virus Shield didn’t actually do anything.
