Following a fortnight of rumors and speculation, Google has now uploaded it’s official Camera application to the Play Store, much to our surprise we’re seeing a completely redesigned user interface, along with an array of new effects, high resolution panoramas and a nifty 100% viewfinder.

According to Google “The 100% viewfinder gets out of your way while capturing the maximum resolution of the scene (no dropped pixels). And the extra large capture button is easy to press so your eyes never lose sight of the subject.”

The screenshots shown in the apps listing also reveal that Google has taken an extremely minimalistic approach with the design of its new Camera app. The development team at Mountain View have replaced the traditional DSLR-like menu, which proved to be extremely hard to navigate on mobile devices, with a new, simple options screen that’s designed to stay hidden unless you manually toggle it.

Unfortunately, Google’s new  Camera app is only available to download on select smartphones and tablets running Android 4.4 KitKat and above, though we suspect that compatibility will be added for older versions of the operating system in the not-too-distant future.
