T-Mobile is gearing up for its “Magenta Deal Days” Zero Down promotion in hopes of suckering a few chaps into signing a 2-year contract and paying full retail for a phone. I’ve always detested the way T-Mobile tries to mislead consumers with these deals. The lure is “zero down payment,” but the truth is — there is a down payment. Sure, you’ll get that money back in the form of a rebate card, but that’s not the point. It’s not “zero down,” it’s $149.99 down with a $150 rebate card. It’s more like a deposit than anything.

It turns out T-Mobile is quite meta when it comes to testing their Android devices. Deep inside the automation lab of T-Mobile lives the wireless industry’s only custom-built testing robot used to model real consumer behavior (I wonder if they gave it a name). A robot testing Androids so to speak. While I think this is pretty cool and great for testing specific functionality of a device, I’m confident nothing can replace the pure destructive ingenuity of a careless human.

When Samsung released the Galaxy S III to all the major U.S. carriers it was a godsend. It was a smart move by Samsung and allowed consumers the opportunity to have the latest and greatest Android phone, no matter what carrier they were on. Everyone was pretty excited, until T-Mobile came out and priced the Samsung Galaxy S III almost $100 more on contract than every other carrier. T-Mobile customers were pretty much given the shaft and offered little to no relief, until now.

T-Mobile already gave us the heads up on their plan to launch nationwide unlimited data plans on Septemeber 5th, and sure enough, they’re here. Anyone looking to join team Magenta can now sign up for truly unlimited nationwide data. It’s no LTE, but it’s much cheaper and a lot faster than 3G.

A while back, all the major carriers (with the exception of Sprint) got together to start up a mobile payment system called ISIS. While ISIS has been absent from the mobile market for the past two years, it hasn’t stopped the carriers backing it from blocking its competition (Google Wallet) — a move I find to be illegal and completely anti-competitive. Anyways, it appears ISIS has finally found its way onto its first mobile device via a software update and that device happens to be the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II.
