Galaxy-S5-back-blue

Samsung launched its flagship smartphone of 2014, the Galaxy S5, in a whopping 125 countries on Friday, and for many customers who were lucky enough to get their hands on one, it was their first IP67 certified waterproof smartphone — so it’s only natural that they were eager to get it home and submerge the handset in water to put it through its paces.

Once they’ve played around with their new phone for an hour or two, owners will then probably want to personalize it as best as they can; this usually comes in the form of purchasing skins, decals or even replacement housing. That’s where this post comes into play. Since Friday, we have seen a shedload of third-party backplates designed exclusively for the Galaxy S5 appear on eBay. However, we strongly recommend you refrain from buying one.

Here’s why.

HTC-One-M8-back

The HTC One M8’s gorgeous aluminum unibody is one of “the top five reasons” why it is better than the Samsung Galaxy S5, according to leaked HTC training material that’s reportedly being distributed to sales representatives in the United States.

The document also refers to the M8’s incredible BoomSound speakers, its nifty touch gestures that are supposed to make it better for one-handed use, and its new Duo Camera.

Gear 2

A new revelation has spilled the beans on the hardware powering the Samsung Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. It has been confirmed that the two new wearable devices come with a dual core Exynos 3250 chipset under the hood clocked at 1 GHz. This is in comparison to the 800 MHz chip found in the Galaxy Gear from last September.

LG-G-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Gear

LG paraded a prototype of its upcoming G Watch, one of the first smartwatches powered by Google’s exciting new Android Wear operating system, at a product showcase event in the U.K. this week. And according to one LG representative in attendance, you’ll be able to buy the new wearable before July for less than £180 ($300).

Galaxy-S5-hammer

No one likes to see a brand new smartphone being smashed to pieces unnecessarily, so this torture test video featuring a Galaxy S5 that fights back is the most enjoyable one you’ll find on YouTube. It looks like the handset is going to go down easily after several whacks with a large hammer — but it only takes one blow to the battery to send its abuser running in the opposite direction.
