With the launch of the iPhone 5s, Apple managed to beat chip giant Qualcomm right in the gut by releasing the world’s first 64-bit mobile processor — the A7. Less than six months later, Qualcomm is aiming to catch up by unveiling its first 64-bit mobile SoCs — the Snapdragon 610 and 615 — meant for mid-range smartphones and tablets.

HTC is expected to give carriers a “sneak peak” at a brand new smartwatch powered by Google Now at Mobile World Congress next week, according to “a person with direct knowledge of the plans” who has been speaking to Bloomberg. The prototype device is said to be the first of three new wearables from the Taiwanese company.

Qualcomm has formally pulled the plug on its Snapdragon 802 chipset. The processor was set to be a slightly improved version of the hugely successful Snapdragon 800, and was designed for televisions and set top boxes. But Qualcomm claims that the demand for the chipset has been too low.

Qualcomm is celebrating this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas by knocking $50 off its Android-comptible Toq smartwatch. For this week only, the device will sell for $299.99 as opposed to $349.99, and you can buy it directly from Qualcomm or through Amazon.

CoA-CES-2014-bugQualcomm announced its latest Snapdragon processor at CES in Las Vegas today, but it isn’t quite the company’s answer to NVIDIA’s new Tegra K1 chip. Instead, the Snapdragon 802 processor is aimed at televisions and set-top boxes rather that smartphones and tablets, and it’s focused on powered Ultra HD 4K content.
