Google’s upcoming Nexus 9 tablet, made by HTC, could launch earlier than expected, according to one reliable tipster — which means Android L could make its public debut early, too. Recent reports have promised an unveiling during the second week of October, but we may not have to wait that long.

If you have a Nexus 4 or the original Nexus 7, you can now get your hands on Google’s Android L preview, courtesy of an unofficial port from third-party developers. Installation is as simple as flashing the ROM with a custom recovery, but you should proceed with caution.

Towards the end of last week, Google started rolling out the Android 4.4.4 update for the Nexus and Google Play edition devices. The update took many by surprise since the Internet giant had rolled out the much anticipated Android 4.4.3 update at the beginning of the month.

While the factory images for the Nexus devices are already up for download, Google is rolling out the OTA update in batches, which means that it won’t show up instantly on your device.

Google has started pushing out the Android 4.4.4 update for the Nexus devices, a couple of weeks after it rolled out the Android 4.4.3 update. The latest update to KitKat, carrying the build number KTU84P, is an emergency bug fix release than a feature rich one.

LG’s last two contributions to the Nexus line have undoubtedly been the best Nexus smartphones we’ve seen from Google. Combining high-end specifications and excellent build quality with affordable price tags, they’ve helped make Nexus devices popular not only with developers, but with Android users as well.

But despite the success of these devices, LG hasn’t been called upon to make a Nexus 6.
