Google’s YouTube apps for Android and iOS have helped the company triple advertising sales on mobile in the past six months, the company has said. Mobile ads now contribute an estimated $350 million to YouTube’s revenue, with around a quarter of the site’s 1 billion users accessing videos on smartphones and tablets.

There was a time when the idea of seeing the likes of Samsung and HTC offering us “Google Edition” devices free from their own user interfaces seemed crazy. Now it’s almost becoming the norm for the latest flagships. It began with the Galaxy S4 at Google I/O last month, and then Android head Sundar Pinchai announced the HTC One Google Edition at D11 last week.

Now a rumor claims that we’ll get a Sony Xperia Z with stock Android next month.

Google has released its stock virtual keyboard layout as a separate download in Google Play. Aptly named “Google Keyboard,” the download brings everything from Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, like dictation and gesture-based typing. The same typing experience you get on a Nexus device is now available for nearly all Android smartphone and tablets.

You can use gestures to type with a dynamic floating preview. There is voice dictation, autocompletion and suggestions, multiple layouts, and support for 26 languages. You can download Google Keyboard now for free in Google Play.

The New York Attorney General has called for Apple, Google, Samsung, and Microsoft to invent new ways to curb the ongoing smartphone theft “epidemic.” Eric Schneiderman wants meetings with representatives from all four companies, and he has urged them to “be as innovative in solving this problem as they have been in designing devices that have reshaped how we live.”

HTC has increased the price of the unlocked HTC One from $574.99 to $599.99. The company has not released an official statement to explain why the device got a $25 price bump, but I have an inkling it has something to do with Google’s upcoming “Nexus Experience,” which is set to launch on Google Play for $599.99 on June 26.
