Facebook just announced on its blog that the company has purchased the popular photo sharing app Instagram for a cool $1 billion. The news comes shortly after Instagram just launched its popular Android app, which has seen great success.

But the real success of Instagram is over on iOS, where the app has exploded to be one of the top apps on the iTunes App Store. Before its release on Android, Instagram boasted over 30 million users and added 1 million the day Instagram launched on Android.  Check out Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerburg’s announcement:

A security researcher has discovered a serious flaw with the Facebook and Dropbox apps for both Android and iOS that puts all of your sensitive personal data at risk.

Anyone with access to your device can use a free piece of software that’s easily available on the internet to retrieve an unencrypted, plain text file from your device that provides access to your entire account — without requiring a jailbreak.

Those who use the music streaming service Spotify’s Android app have noticed that it’s not that good, at least compared to the company’s iOS app. The Android version doesn’t feature support for Ice Cream Sandwich and also crashes frequently on other versions. Luckily, a new report says the app is getting a “major” revamp soon. For an app that has “5 million to 10 million” users, the update is much needed. 

Developers of the popular stock Android music player alternative doubleTwist, have today released a welcomed update for the app. If you use Google Music to buy and store music, you’ll want to grab this update, as version 1.7.3 of doubleTwist adds support for offline tracks. Along with support for Google Music, doubleTwist for Android has also been given a few more nice updates:

Google has announced an update to its popular Google Maps for Android, bringing the app to version 6.5. The update adds a redesigned navigation home screen, crisper look on devices that have a higher pixel density, a faster experience, and more. The Maps team also announced some pretty interesting statistics about the app’s all-time usage.
