HTC promised last July that it would focus all of its efforts on high-end devices in an effort to turn its struggling smartphone business around, but having tasted little success with that approach, it is now going to make more affordable midrange handsets its priority instead.

Chialin Chang, HTC’s Chief Financial Officer, told Reuters that the Taiwanese firm is looking to sell products in $150-$300 price range.

Snapdragon Glance

Android users have a variety of third-party lock screens to choose from, which speaks volumes about the versatility of the platform. Today we can add one more to that list with the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon Glance.

Glance is slightly different from conventional lock screens as it learns from usage and provides information accordingly, in addition to displaying notifications.

Verizon Nexus 7

The 2013 Nexus 7 currently supports T-Mobile and AT&T’s 4G LTE networks in the U.S., with the Verizon variant being delayed indefinitely due to lack of certification. But it now seems like this variant isn’t far away from launch, as a few leaked images have revealed the outer covering of the Nexus 7 with the Verizon branding prominently visible.

HTC’s yet-to-be announced flagship smartphone of 2014, the HTC One Plus (M8) is expected to be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona at the end of this month, however, we’re now starting to see the first signs that a scaled-down variant is also in the works. According to a popular leaker, the ‘mini’ version of the Happy Telephone Company’s upcoming flagship will sport a 4.5-inch display — that’s only 0.2-inches larger than the display of last years One Mini.

Lenovo has increased it mid-range line up by introducing the A628T, which is effectively scaled-down variant of its 2013 flagship smartphone, the A850. According to the Chinese multinational company, the handset will launch just in time for Valentine’s Day anodized in a ‘glossy red’ colorway and will be a China Mobile exclusive.
