Amazon has released its first commercial for the Fire Phone, and it’s focused on the free 12-month Prime subscription that comes bundled with it. There’s also a brief mention of some of the apps that will be available for the device at launch, including Skype, Twitter, and Minecraft.

While Android has a significantly larger user base, iOS has always been the more profitable platform for app developers. That’s expected to change over the next three years, however. One analyst believes that by 2018, Google Play will bring in more revenue than the App Store for the first time ever.

A leaked list of applications that will be pre-installed on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 4 appears to confirm the handset’s Quad HD display and support for a virtual reality device. Other APK files point to the inevitable return of Samsung’s Finger Scanner — but there is no mention of that rumored ultraviolet sensor.

The European Commission has issued some words to Google and Apple about both companies’ steps to ensure children don’t rack up huge amounts of money on in-app purchases without their parents’ permission.

In a statement released by the Commission on Friday, Google is praised for a series of changes that will be put in effect by the end of September — while Apple finds itself on the receiving end of some harsh criticism.

HTC is today rolling out its latest Sense 6 user interface to last year’s midrange One mini. The update weighs in at a whopping 494MB, and it’s packed full of new features and goodies — including Extreme Power Saving mode, color-coded themes, and a new look for the Gallery and Camera apps.
