Samsung is expected to announce Galaxy Gear, its first Android-powered smartwatch, during its Galaxy Note III press event in Berlin on September 4. We don’t yet know what it will look like, but according to information from insider sources, it’ll be available in a variety of colors, including white, orange, grey, black, and white gold.

SamMobile reports reports that the white, orange, grey, and black models will be available first — apparently during week 39 of this year, which runs from September 23 to September 29. Then, in the following week, Samsung is expected to introduce the white gold model, which “might or might not be exclusive to specific regions / carriers.”

SamMobile notes that these release dates are subject to change, but they expect Galaxy Gear to be available in late September, early October at the latest.

The Galaxy Gear will reportedly feature a 2.5-inch OLED touchscreen with a 320×320 resolution, and will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Exynos 4212 processor with Mali-400MP4 graphics. It’s expected to run Android 4.1 or Android 4.2, and it will connect to other Android-powered devices — such as your smartphone or tablet — via Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

Once connected to another device, Galaxy Gear will be used to view incoming notifications, check Facebook and Twitter, and run certain apps — such as health and fitness trackers.

The Galaxy Gear will go up against Sony’s new SmartWatch 2, and it’s expected to face further competition from Apple’s “iWatch,” and other offerings from Google, Microsoft, and LG later on.
