The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active promises to be a “perfect companion” for those who need a high-end smartphone but have a tendency to get things wet and dirty. But is Samsung’s notoriously cheap build quality affecting its reliability? According to one AT&T employee, getting the Galaxy S4 Active wet is a bad idea, and could render your brand new smartphone useless.

It’s been a long time coming, but the waterproof, shockproof, modular LifeProof phone cases has evolved from their iDevice origins and now protect their first Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Two models of the LifeProof case have arrived for the Galaxy S3 this week: The Fre, the original case from LifeProof; and the Nuud, which is similar to the Fre but is free of a screen protector and allows unobstructed access to the S3’s screen. LifeProof says these cases are the thinnest and lightest fully protective cases yet made for the S3.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is now available to purchase in the United Kingdom. The waterproof handset is priced at around £500 ($745) if you want it SIM-free, but you can get it free on a two-year contract from £33 ($49) per month.

Hot on the heels of its Xperia Z Ultra announcement, Sony has unveiled the new SmartWatch 2, its second attempt at conquering the intelligent wristwatch market before its competitors throw their efforts into the mix. Like its predecessor, the new device is powered by Android, but this time it offers a bigger display and a waterproof body.

T-Mobile USA has confirmed that it will carry the Sony Xperia Z this summer, finally putting an end to all the rumors that have been circulating since the device was spotted back in April. The carrier will become the only provider in the U.S. to offer Sony’s waterproof smartphone, which has been available in Japan and Europe since January.
