We’ve already told you about T-Mobile and Sprint’s plans for the Samsung Galaxy S III, so let’s talk about a carrier whose LTE speeds and coverage are worth a damn — Verizon. While most carriers were pretty clear on their plans for the Galaxy S III, Verizon, as always, is playing the guessing game. They were kind enough to let us know that pre-orders for the Galaxy S III would start Wednesday June 6th, but when customers can expect to actually receive those pre-orders is anyone’s guess.
AT&T "toll free" plans will provide free access to some online content
Unlimited data plans are becoming scarce options for smartphone and tablet users. Sprint remains the only carrier to offer an unlimited data plans. Most Verizon and AT&T customers, however, need to make do with tiered data plans. Tiered data plans get more cash from customers and deter customers from overloading mobile networks with excessive data use.
As a result, a lot of us try to avoid excessive data use by limiting the types and amount of content that we access when using a device’s 3G or LTE connection. That, in turn, blocks many content companies from capturing ad or subscription revenue from mobile users. That reality is leading major content companies to complain to the carriers and which AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson recently said may lead to “toll free” data plans.
Just over a week ago, Verizon announced their plans to launch a video aggregator app called Viewdini. They obviously got the inspiration from their horribly failed VideoSurf partnership which garnered close to 4,000 1-star reviews. Naturally, Verizon saw this as a success and decided to launch their own video aggregator service. You’ll find the service comes with many caveats but I guess we should be happy it doesn’t yet come pre-installed on our devices.
Verizon posted the update informationM for Android 4.0.4 IMM76K yesterday and we knew it wouldn’t be long before it started rolling out. Well, some lucky users are already seeing the update pop up on their device, but before you go getting excited, it appears to only be affecting a small batch of people. Of course, I’m not one of them, but that hasn’t stopped me from obsessively hitting the “check now” button.
Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners have been waiting, for what seems like an eternity, for Android 4.0.4 to hit their device. Google passed it along to Verizon months ago, but for some reason, Verizon just recently got around to approving it. Sure, we’ve seen it leak a couple of times, but never anything official from Verizon — until today.
