Look at the size of that thing.

When it comes to super-sized smartphones, Samsung’s Galaxy Note II is the hottest “phablet” on the market right now. But other large handsets continue to pop up with a bid to steal its crown. In early 2012, the Huawei Ascend Mate will have a go, and as large smartphones go, this one’s a beast.

In addition to a whopping 6.1-inch 1080p display, the Ascend Mate will offer a 1.8GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, with a high-capacity 4,000 mAh battery to keep it all running. It’ll measure 9.9mm thick.

Samsung began rolling out its Android 4.1.2 “Premium Suite” upgrade for the Galaxy S III earlier this week. Starting in Poland, the software will make its way to all international Galaxy S III handsets over the coming weeks. Last month, HTC and Apple reached a cross-licensing settlement that would put a 10-year kibosh on any litigation between the two. While HTC’s Peter Chou was happy enough to call the settlement “A Good Ending,” Samsung saw it as an opportunity to have injunction proceedings against them thrown out.

A leaked Sprint holiday ad has outed an upcoming deal that some of you may want to take advantage of. Starting this Friday, December 7, and running through December 24, Sprint will be offering BOGO (Buy One Get One) deals on select Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

International Samsung Galaxy S III handsets have begun received the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update this week, which introduces a number of new features to this year’s hottest Android smartphone. In addition to the new “Multi-View” multitasking feature — which originally made its debut on the Galaxy Note II — users can look forward to a redesigned Gallery app, a customizable notification panel, and more.
