Galaxy-S-III-iPhone-Samsung-Apple

Android’s share of the worldwide smartphone market increased yet again during the second quarter of 2013, while the iPhone suffered a slight dip, according to the latest figures from IDC. But Research Manager Ramon Llamas is confident that Apple’s smartphone will recapture more users later this year when the Cupertino company launches the iPhone 5S.

The Sony Xperia Z may be struggling to compete with the Galaxy S4 in many markets, but in Japan, it’s a big seller, and its popularity has helped Sony’s smartphone sales grow. The Japanese company today revealed its fiscal Q1 2013 earnings, which include 9.6 million smartphone shipments — up from 7.4 million in Q1 2012.

Android has held a pretty sizable lead over the iPhone for a long time now, and in the United States, it would appear there’s little chance of that changing any time soon. But Apple’s smartphone is gaining ground on its rival, and it’s all thanks to T-Mobile.

HTC has today announced its unaudited financial results for the second quarter of 2013, and despite help from the widely-praised HTC One, they do not look good. The Taiwanese firm made just NT$1.25 billion ($41 million) after tax from NT$70.7 billion ($2.35 billion) revenue, which is a staggering 83% fall from the same quarter last year.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has reportedly surpassed 20 million sales following its release just over two months ago. In comparison, it took the handset’s predecessor, the Galaxy S III, 100 days to reach this milestone, and it was Samsung’s fastest-selling smartphone to date.
