Did you know your Moto X has a hidden LED notification light that’s disabled by default? Motorola chose to use the handset’s excellent Active Display technology to notify you of new alerts as they come in, but the handset does have an unused LED light as well. When your smartphone’s biggest selling point is its customization options, you need to get a little creative with your print ads. And that’s exactly what Motorola has done for the Moto X. In the January edition of Wired magazine, the company has a full-page ad with built-in LED lights that allows you to change the color of the Moto X printed on the page.

We were surprised to see no new Nexus hardware at Google I/O on Wednesday. We were expecting at least a new Nexus 7, and possible a white Nexus 4 with 32GB of storage. The closest we got was a Samsung Galaxy S4 “Nexus edition” with stock Android.

But we may not have to wait too long before Google updates its 7-inch slate. In fact, it looks like the company has already begun teasing the device in its new promotional video for Google Hangouts.

Notification LEDs in Android devices can be very useful if they are properly setup. The main purpose of a notification LED is to let you know at a glance that you have missed notifications — negating the need to turn on the screen or unlock the device.

However, Android manufacturers don’t provide any kind of in-built application to customize how the LED notification works. Due to this, most users are unaware that they can customize the notification LED on their Android devices.

Light Flow from Rage Consulting allows you to gain total control over the notification LED of your device and customise it according to your liking. The app will work without any issues on a majority of the Android devices, except for the ones from HTC. Here’s how to use it.

Samsung-Xcover-2

While today’s smartphones may boast just as many pixels as your television and a faster processor than your PC, they’re not great at going outdoors. Drop any of them onto hard concrete without a case and you can almost guarantee you’re in for a pricey repair bill. That’s not the case with the new Samsung Xcover 2, however.

Announcing just this morning, the Xcover 2 is “the ideal smartphone for active explorers who are enjoying outdoor lifestyles and seeking a durable mobile device with essential smartphone capabilities.”
