HTC has today announced a new HTC One variant that gives Android fans with a penchant for gold a nice alternative to the iPhone 5s. The new device is identical to the original on the inside, but its aluminum panels have had a new lick of champaign-colored paint.

We’ve already seen some fuzzy snaps of the HTC M8, the upcoming success to the flagship HTC One, and now we have some specifications, too. A reliable source claims the device will offer a slightly larger 5-inch display with the same 1080p resolution, a Snapdragon 800 processor, and Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box.

Apple’s iPhone 5s became the world’s first smartphone with a 64-bit processor when it launched this September, but as you might expect, it’ll have plenty of competitors next year. Unsurprisingly, some of those will come from Samsung, which is already planning 64-bit chips and 16-megapixel cameras for its 2014 flagships, according to industry sources.

Given Google’s apparent disregard for secrecy when it comes to the new Nexus 5, you won’t be surprised to see that the device is already being unboxed all over the globe ahead of its official unveiling.

HTC has finally announced the One max, its new flagship phablet that hopes to compete with the Galaxy Note 3 and other super-sized smartphones. As expected, the device boasts a 5.9-inch 1080p display, a speedy Snapdragon 600 processor, and a fingerprint scanner.
