The Instagram phenomenon continues to captivate mobile users across the globe and now generates over 5 million new users a week, according to its API. Those are absolutely amazing numbers for the once iOS exclusive photography sharing app that now boasts over 50 million total users thanks to its recent launch on Android. With numbers like this, it’s no wonder Facebook reached deep in their pockets to snatch them up.

The billion dollar app has received yet another update. This time around, InstFaceagram has improved its support for Tegra 3 devices, fixed a few bugs, and increased device support for Instagram built-in camera and filters, including the new HTC One X. I’m not going to lie, I’m surprised they’re still pushing out updates this quickly — you know, being billionaires and all.

Facebook just announced on its blog that the company has purchased the popular photo sharing app Instagram for a cool $1 billion. The news comes shortly after Instagram just launched its popular Android app, which has seen great success.

But the real success of Instagram is over on iOS, where the app has exploded to be one of the top apps on the iTunes App Store. Before its release on Android, Instagram boasted over 30 million users and added 1 million the day Instagram launched on Android.  Check out Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerburg’s announcement:


Instagram has rolled out another update to its 3 day old Android app and this time it will be “the most amazing Android app you’ll ever see.” Joking aside, I’m all for quick updates, new features, and bug fixes. This latest update brings support to WiFi handsets, and for all you weirdos out there taking photos with your gigantic tablets, you too now have official Instagram support.
