Cheap Android tablets are stealing the iPad’s market share.

A study conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project has found a massive boom in tablets over the last 12 months, with 25% of American adults now owning a tablet of their own. As you might expect, the iPad is the most popular device out there at the moment, claiming more than 52% of the market. But that may not be the case for too long.

Android tablets are rapidly catching up, and in the not-so-distant future, there’s a good chance they will be king.

There was once a time when people believed no company would ever be able to knock Microsoft from the top. Then Apple came along with their iDevices and created a culture revolution whilst catapulting themselves to the top of the technology heap. While Apple has continued to dominate the top position, Google has slowly grown from a beta search engine run by two Stanford University students to a tech giant shaping the future with its driverless cars, smart glasses, and open-source mobile operating system.

Today is the last day of Google’s 25 Billion App Downloads Celebration and so we have the final list of apps that have been discounted to 25¢. If there were ever a time for Google to play “good guy” it would be now. Apple has simply been piling up the negative criticism with everything from its ridiculous legal attacks to its latest Mapsgate debacle. While Google has been going down the wrong path by setting itself up to bite back (see Motorola Mobility), I believe now to be the perfect time to turn the other cheek. Specifically with their Maps service.
