Google has patched a major security vulnerability in the Android platform that allowed hackers to inject malicious code into trusted applications without changing their verification signature. It’s now up to hardware manufacturers to make the patch available to their own devices, and Samsung is believed to be one of the first that will start rolling it out.

Google has rolled out a major Google Maps update for Android smartphones and tablets, which is also “coming soon” to iPhone and iPad. It introduces a new design that finally boasts a dedicated user interface for tablets, as well as enhanced navigation and new features.

More photos leaked over the weekend showing two new variants of Motorola’s mysterious Moto X. The images show the device pictured in both black and white, with the designs matching previous alleged casing images we have already seen.

The Sony SmartWatch 2, which was announced at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai last month, was expected to go on sale in the United Kingdom on July 15 following an announcement from online retailer Clove.co.uk.

But it appears the announcement may have been incorrect. Clove has just issued an update to say that the SmartWatch 2 won’t be available until September instead.

With Samsung and HTC launching “Google Edition” variants of their latest flagships, many expected Sony to do the same. But the Japanese company is keeping very quiet about any such plans. Thankfully, Xperia Z owners can now take matters into their own hands, thanks to an unofficial Android 4.3 Google Edition ROM.
