HTC has begun rolling out its Android 4.4 KitKat update to One handsets across Europe. The 308MB release adds a number of new features, including support for the Cloud Print service and Bluetooth profiles, and improves security. It also kills HTC’s own web browser and support for Adobe Flash in favor of Chrome.

Adobe killed Flash Player for Android during the Ice Cream Sandwich days and suggested that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean users uninstall the plugin from their device. However, to the delight of many — the Flash player plugin worked flawlessly on Jelly Bean powered devices right until Android 4.3.

Thanks to some underlying changes in Android 4.4 KitKat, the Flash Player plugin does not work properly on the latest version of Android. As always though, someone from the Android community has managed to find a workaround to get Flash Player to work under KitKat.

When you flash a custom ROM to your Samsung smartphone, a flash counter is triggered that lets Samsung know you’ve tampered with it, and how many ROMs have been installed; it helps the company determine whether or not it should honor your warranty if you have issues with your device.

Fortunately for us, we’ve always been able to reset those counters to hide out tweaking secret — but that’s not the case with the new Galaxy Note 3.

Dolphin-Android

Dolphin, a popular third-party browser for Android, just got another big update that makes several improvements and introduces new features. In addition to a new look, the app now boasts a customizable home screen with over 60 speed dial slots, a new Web App Store, Flash support, and more.

Flash was once viewed as an advantage of the Android platform over its competitors, and now, it’s going the way of the Dodo. If you would have asked me two weeks ago if I would miss it, I would have said no. But after trying to watch NASA’s live feed of the Curiosity moon landing on my Nexus 7 only to be met with a “required plugin is not installed,” I can honestly say I’ll miss it.
