We’re all well aware of how successful Samsung’s Android smartphones have been in recent years, but new research from produce and price comparison website Idealo puts the Korean company’s dominance into perspective.

Over five quarters between Q4 2011 and Q4 2012, Samsung devices accounted for a full 50% of Android smartphone “clicks” on Idealo. What’s more, the company has produced no less than 12 of the top 20 smartphones.

Xperia-ZL-US

The unlocked Sony Xperia ZL is heading to the United States after being listed on the official Sony Store. The device will be available in three colors — black, red, and white — but Sony hasn’t yet confirmed its price or its release date. It’s thought, however, that the handset will be available “within the next month.”

Google-Play-gift-card

Google first introduced its Google Play gift cards to the United States back in August 2012, but almost eight months later, the company is yet to roll them out to other markets. According to a new Google Play support page, however, that’s about to change, and Android users in the United Kingdom should expect to see them soon.

Orange-San-Remo

mwc2013bug-coaBARCELONA, MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS — European carrier Orange is at Mobile World Congress this week to show off its latest lineup of own-brand Android devices. There are three altogether — called the Lumo, Nivo, and San Remo — and like the company’s previous own-brand devices, they’re midrange and entry-level devices aimed at budget-conscious consumers who want a modern Android smartphone.

Two of them are particularly interesting: The San Remo is Orange’s first large-screen smartphone, packing a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display; while the Lumo is its first to boast speedy 4G LTE connectivity.

We went hands-on with all three devices to see if they’re any good.

Samsung is set to announce the Galaxy S IV, its next-generation Android flagship, on March 15 — before it goes on sale in early April. That’s according to a “trusted insider,” who claims the location of Samsung’s Unpacked event is still “top-secret.” Invitations will reportedly go out to the press just after Mobile World Congress at the end of this month.
