The back of the Xperia Z.

Sony is reportedly already planning a competitor to the rumored Samsung “Galaxy S4 Zoom.” Codenamed “Honami,” the device is expected to offer a large 1/1.60- to 1/1.5-inch sensor and a Sony G lens that would bring compact camera picture quality to a smartphone.

Samsung just launched its much-anticipated Galaxy S4 all over the world, and the Korean electronics giant is already said to be planning several other smartphones that will milk the “Galaxy S4” moniker.

We’ve already heard about one of those — a “ruggedized” version that’ll be both dust and water resistant — but another model with a 16-megapixel camera called the “Galaxy S4 Zoom” may also be on the way.

A new update is making its way to Samsung Galaxy S III handsets on Sprint this week. In addition to fixing a lock screen flaw that allows users to bypass any security locks you have set — exactly one week after it was fixed on the Galaxy Note II — it also introduces Samsung’s excellent Multi-View feature, and more.

For those unfamiliar with Multi-View, it’s a TouchWiz feature that was first introduced to the Galaxy Note II, and it allows you to run two apps side-by-side simultaneously. So you can watch YouTube videos while you chat to friends on Facebook, or keep an eye on the sports scores while you reply to emails.

It’s true multitasking on a smartphone, and Samsung’s the only smartphone manufacturer that provides it — for now, at least.

The update also makes improvements to the built-in Gallery, Camera, and Paper Artist apps, and addresses the lock screen security flaw that was discovered on a number of popular Samsung smartphones earlier this year.

The update is rolling out over-the-air to Sprint users as I write this, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you should do fairly soon.

Android has quickly become the most dominant mobile operating system in the world. Thanks to its freeware strategy, Google has been able to push Apple on its heels and crush Blackberry and Microsoft’s mobile platforms. But it turns out that Android’s founder envisioned a world of “smart cameras” with Android at its core, rather than smartphones.

With Android 4.2, Google completely revamped the camera experience with a brand new interface and features like Photosphere. While the new UI may seem like a welcome change, it is poorly laid out which can make selecting the intended option cumbersome.

The lack of some downright basic options like scenes and timer mode does not help the matter, either. Worse, on the Nexus devices, the camera app has an auto-focus bug that can often lead to blurry photos.

While Motorola phones are not particularly known for their camera performance, the camera application on their handsets is perfect for most, with just the right amount of settings. Here is how you can get the Motorola camera app on your Android 4.0+ handset.
