When the first quad-core tablet hit the market, Android fans were ecstatic. That excitement quickly turned into disapointment for some, when it was discovered that ASUS had locked the Prime’s bootloader. After an outcry from modders, developers and general consumers, ASUS soon realized the importance of having an unlock option for those that seek the freedom to customize their devices as they see fit, regardless of the risks. ASUS soon announced that they would be working on an unlock tool for the Prime, and today, they have announced that the “root tool” will be available in February.

There’s been a lot of commotion lately over the much hyped ASUS Tranformer Prime. Over the past week there have been complaints about GPS issues, Android 4.0 delays, and the biggest noise maker — the locked bootloader. Today, ASUS has decided to address all these issues in an attempt to put everyone worries at bay. Although I would have preferred an official press release, their Facebook statement will have to do. Here’s what they had to say:

When it comes to unlocking bootloaders, HTC has been on a roll. We recently reported the news of HTC allowing for all devices launched after September 2011 to be unlockable, and now, it seems they are adding more pre-Sepetmeber 2011 devices to their long list of supported devices. An unprecedented gesture of developer support if you ask me.

We now have answers as to why HTC Rezound users were able to unlock their device using the instruction from HTCdev.com. It appears any device launched after September 2011 is now unlockable and HTCdev will be updating the site accordingly. This is excellent news for the future of HTC and its customers.

HTCdev.com, the official site for unlocking your HTC bootloader, has inadvertently given HTC Rezound owners instructions on how to unlock their bootloaders. The HTC Rezound has yet to be officially listed on HTCdev.com but according to a few sources, the instructions for unlocking your bootloader also apply to the Rezound and will work if followed correctly. You will be left with S-On and will have to perform a factory reset at the end (so do a backup if needed).
