While Android hardware manufacturers were busy trying to pack as many cores as they could into their smartphone and tablet processors, Apple took a different route and decided to go 64-bit instead. It’s a move that makes the iPhone 5s and the latest iPads some of the fastest mobile devices on the market, and so it’s no surprise that its rivals are getting ready to follow suit.

Intel has promised that you’ll be able to buy Android-powered tablets with 64-bit “Bay Trail” processors next year.

Facebook is hard at work on delivering a much-needed redesign to its Android app, and we have an early glimpse at what the new design will look like thanks to these leaked screenshots. It’s much “flatter” and cleaner than the existing design — a lot like the new Facebook Messenger app — and it makes the app look much more likes its counterparts for iOS and Windows Phone.

The three largest Canadian carriers, Rogers, TELUS and Bell, are in the process of pushing out a rather hefty unexpected over-the-air (OTA) update to all of their carrier-branded Samsung Galaxy S4 and S4 Mini handsets located in Canada. This much-anticipated update finally brings Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and a newer version of the TouchWiz UI to the handset, in addition to support for the Galaxy Gear.

AT&T began its Android 4.4 KitKat soak test for the Moto X last week, and we had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before it was making the software available to the public — particularly after Verizon became the first to roll it out to its own customers.

So it wasn’t too much of a surprise to see Moto X customers with AT&T getting their KitKat updates over-the-air this weekend.
