AT&T Begins Android 4.4 KitKat Soak Test For Moto X

To everyone’s surprise, Verizon became the first carrier to roll out an Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Motorola Moto X earlier this week, but it seems those on AT&T won’t have to wait too much longer, either. The company just kicked off its KitKat soak test for the device, which sees a small number of users invited to try the software early.

“We have seen several reports of AT&T Moto X users getting invites to test an update through the Motorola Feedback Network,” Android Community reports.

The emails don’t mention Android 4.4 KitKat specifically, Android Community notes, but given that a similar soak test recently gave some Verizon customers the update ahead of its public debut, it seems pretty obvious what this one involves.

The soak test indicates that the update’s final release is now pretty close. Providing all goes well — and no serious issues are discovered — we’d expect AT&T to start rolling the software out to everyone over the next few weeks. If issues are found, however, it’s likely to take a little longer.

But you can be sure that now Verizon customers already have the update, AT&T will be working hard to bring it to its own customers. It certainly won’t want Verizon to have that kind of advantage for too long.
