Customers picking up the new Sony Xperia Z1 Compact in the United Kingdom can get their hands on a free SmartWatch 2 if they pre-order the device directly from Sony’s online store.

Announced at CES last week, the new smartphone packs all of the original Xperia Z1’s high-end specifications into a smaller smartphone for those who prefer something a little more pocketable.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will get its grand unveiling at a press event in London in mid-March — not at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month — according to a “reliable source.” The device is expected to debut Samsung’s new iris scanning security feature, as well as an improved design made from more premium materials.

Hello SMS, my favorite third-party SMS client and one of our picks for Best Apps of 2013, has gotten a new update that adds a number of new features and improvements based on user feedback. Highlights include an image sharing confirmation prompt, the ability to turn off invite reminders, and some user interface improvements.

Galaxy-Note-3-KitKat

Samsung’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy Note 3 made its debut a little earlier than expected today when it started appearing on handsets in Poland. The software is compatible with the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy Note 3 with the “SM-N9005” model number, and it’s being distributed via Samsung’s KIES application for Mac and PC.

A leaked engineering prototype of Normandy, Nokia’s first Android-powered smartphone, has been pictured out in the wild. Although it’s covered by a protective case, the design seems to lineup with the leaked press renders we’ve already seen for the budget smartphone.
