Sony-Xperia-Z1-Compact

Sony unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact, which is a scaled-down variant of its current flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, at the Consumer Electronics Show two weeks ago in Las Vegas, and although we can’t actually get our hands on the device just yet here in the United Kingdom, the U.K.-based online retailer, Clove Technology, slashed £30 off the Z1 Compact’s original pre-order price today — meaning you’ll be able to grab Sony’s latest Android smartphone for £399.

Rumors, photos and specifications have been swirling around the web for a while now advocating that Samsung is in the midst of producing a scaled-down variant of its Galaxy Note 3. Although Samsung still has not officially announced the Galaxy Note 3 Neo, the South Korean company did today confirm its existence when it issued a short statement disclosing that the device would not be making an appearance in the U.K. Unfortunately, no further details were provided.

Ergo-Nexus-5

We’ve seen lots of Android apps that offer inventive ways to secure your smartphone, but I don’t think any of them are as interesting as Ergo from Descartes Biometrics. Ergo lets you unlock your smartphone using the unique geometry of your ear, so gaining access to your device is as easy as placing it against your face.

Nokia-Normandy-Android-UI

Nokia has today announced that it will hold a press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

Normally we wouldn’t take much notice of that here at Cult of Android — given Nokia doesn’t make any Android-powered devices — but with mounting speculation surrounding Normandy, Nokia’s affordable Android smartphone, that could be about to change.

When you buy a 16GB smartphone, you don’t actually get 16GB of space to install apps, music and other media. No matter what smartphone you buy, the operating system needs to be installed into memory, and that takes up valuable gigabytes.

Still, some phones are better than others. As far as staying trim, the iPhone 5c is the best value for the money in its class, allowing users to install media to 12.60GB of the 16GB drive. The Google Nexus 5 comes in second place at 12.28GB.

The worst offender by far, though? The Samsung Galaxy S4. You won’t believe how little internal memory you get.
