Orlovsky_and_Oculus_Rift

Whether virtual-reality technology really takes off in a big way remains to be seen. But with Facebook having just dropped $2 billion acquiring Oculus Rift, a whole lot of people — some of them with very large checkbooks — are confident it will.

Both Apple and Google have have shown interest in virtual reality, but what exactly does it have the potential to change in our lives?

Here are seven answers:

Kindle Fire HDX

American online retailer Amazon is now offering decent discounts on the Kindle Fire HD and HDX tablets. The 7 and 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX tablets have received discounts of $30 and $40 respectively, while the standard 7 inch Kindle Fire HD gets a $40 discount.

Nexus 5 Camera

A new leak has revealed that the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 handsets will receive the Android 4.4.3 update relatively soon. This confirms several rumors over the past few weeks which have hinted that Google could be rolling out the Android 4.4.3 update with a fix to the Nexus 5 camera issue.

HTC-One-powered-by-Android

If you’ve watched any of those Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8 unboxing videos that are now taking over YouTube, then you’ve probably seen their new startup screens that proudly display a “powered by Android” logo.

Google is now forcing handset makers to display this logo in a supposed effort to raise awareness of the Android brand, with many third-party interfaces making the platform unrecognizable.

Android-robot-driving

If you have been a long-time Android user who is not afraid of jumping into the world of custom ROMs and kernels, you’ve probably come across the work of “jcase.” He has released rooting procedures for a bunch of HTC devices — and more recently, Motorola, too — that work using various exploits in the firmware.

Recently, he released a very unique security app for Android devices — TimePIN — that automatically changes the lockscreen PIN depending on the time.

Today, we sit down for an interview with jcasea.k.a Justin Case (his name on Twitter), and talk to him about the process of finding exploit-based root procedures, the idea behind TimePIN and the level of security in today’s mobile OSes.
