Amazon will roll out a new, standalone video streaming service next year that won’t be bundled with a $99 Prime subscription, according to sources familiar with its plans. The retail giant hopes to take on rivals like Netflix and Hulu and undercut their prices in an effort to attract customers.

Popcorn Time for Android, the app that lets you stream movie and TV show torrents directly to your device, now allows you to download content and enjoy it offline. The much-anticipated feature is baked into Popcorn Time’s latest beta release, which also brings lots of bug fixes, adds support for physical keyboards, and lets you customize the color of your subtitles.

Who says Chromebooks are useless without an Internet connection? Not Google, which today announced that Chromebook users can now watch movies and TV shows offline using the new Play Movies & TV app for Chrome OS.
