Sony has this week confirmed its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade plans for Xperia smartphones and tablets. If you have a recent, high-end Xperia device, then you’ll be eligible for both updates — and you can expect the first to start rolling out “from next month.”

Sony has today revealed its Android 4.3 upgrade plans for Xperia smartphones and tablets. It’s good news if you own an Xperia Z or one of its many variants, as well as the Xperia SP — all of which will get Android 4.3 at some point. Sony also says it is looking at “uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3.”

T-Mobile USA has today made the Sony Xperia Z available to pre-order ahead of its exclusive launch tomorrow, July 17. The waterproof flagship can be purchased for just $99 down on T-Mobile’s Simple Choice plan — or $579 if you’d like to buy the device outright — and it comes with a free wireless speaker while stocks last.

Sony’s working on a new flagship smartphone codenamed the “Honami,” and although the Japanese company has managed to keep the handset itself under wraps, it hasn’t been able to stop its software from leaking into the wild.

A system dump from a Canadian carrier has revealed many of the handset’s internals, while its Camera app has already been ported to the latest Xperia devices.

Sony is pushing out an update for its Xperia ZL, including the North American unlocked LTE model, bumping it up to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean — the latest Android release. If you wish to update your handset, you’ll have to do so using Sony’s PC Companion app for PC, or Sony Bridge for Mac.
