Sony is pushing out an update for its Xperia ZL, including the North American unlocked LTE model, bumping it up to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean — the latest Android release. If you wish to update your handset, you’ll have to do so using Sony’s PC Companion app for PC, or Sony Bridge for Mac.

Official support pages are still listing information for the previous 4.1 update, so unfortunately we do not have an official changelog just yet. But from what we can gather, the lock screen has been redesigned to incorporate Android 4.2’s lock screen widgets, including swiping left to access the camera and right to add additional widgets.

The update also brings some great new native features to the Xperia ZL, such as Google Now, gesture typing, Photo-Sphere camera, performance improvements, and expandable notifications.

There are also some subtle tweaks to Sony’s launcher; the notification quick-toggles are now significantly smaller, cleaner, and fully customizable. The animations when navigating around the device are also more fluid and smooth, contributing to a better OS as a whole.

The multitasking menu has been changed quite a bit, too, with larger app thumbnails and an improved mini app launcher at the bottom of the screen.

If you have an Xperia ZL, you can download the update via Sony’s PC Companion app for PC, or Bridge for Mac by clicking the source link below.
