Unlike Microsoft, Facebook, and today, Apple, which publicly published information regarding the number of requests made for customer information by the government over a 6-month period, Google is hoping to reveal its request statistics differently.

The search giant said in an official statement to AllThingsD that the large number of National Security letters, together with criminal requests, would be a “step back” for its users, so it wants to split them up.

Instagram is gearing up to take on Vine by offering a new video sharing service, according to a source familiar with the plans. The move is expected to be announced on Thursday, June 20, during a mysterious Facebook press event at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

Samsung has a press event scheduled for June 20, but it has announced so many new smartphones recently that we’re wondering what’s left to unveil. According to one source, one of the products on its list will be a second-generation Galaxy Camera, which is said to be everything its predecessor “should’ve been.”

Zynga has reportedly closed down Draw Something studio OMGPOP and laid off all of its staff just 14 months after it was acquired in a $180 million deal. OMGPOP released its Draw Something sequel back in April, but it appears it wasn’t the success the company hoped it would be.

HTC-One-silver-back

It’s taken several months, but Verizon has finally confirmed today that it will be offering the flagship HTC One this summer. The device will be identical to that already offered by other U.S. and international carriers — with an added Verizon logo, of course — and Verizon will not be renaming it.
