If you’ve been following the smartphone market at all this past year, then you’ve already heard this song and dance. Regardless of this broken record, it’s still amazing at how Android managed to cannibalize the smartphone market in such a short time. With that being said, I bet you can guess what I’m going to say next. Yep, Android and Samsung are once again on top when it comes to worldwide smartphone sales.

Almost all of your friends probably own smartphones by now. If they don’t own an iPhone they probably have an Android phone, which is fine because it seems like everyone nowdays could use a personal computer in their pocket.

Smartphone adaption rates have been ridiculously high in the US and other companies over the past five-years. Flurry, a mobile application analytics company, decided they wanted to know just how fast iOS and Android devices are growing, so they compiled some data and found that the smartphone revolution is bigger than any other digital revolution in history.

Starting August 12th, Sprint will be offering customers a free 7-inch ZTE Optik tablet with the purchase of any smartphone. That means, anyone wishing to, could actually grab the free Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus and walk away with a free tablet!

LG has made a wise decision to halt all tablet development in favor of focusing on its smartphones. LG is already a company lagging behind in the mobile wars, and frankly, releasing any Android tablet other than the Nexus 7 at this point, is like tossing it straight into the recycling bin.

Nielsen, global leader in measurement and information, takes a look back at the State Of Appnation and how much has changed over the past year. Since Nielsen’s 2011 summary, the number of U.S. smartphone users has increased by 12.4%, with one in two mobile subscribers now owning a smartphone. With the rise in smartphone users, comes a rise in the number of apps being downloaded, as well as the amount of time users spend engaged with them.
