Now, this is just getting silly. Samsung is said to be developing displays for the next iteration of its popular Galaxy Note — the Galaxy Note III — and according to “officials from a local parts supplier” in Asia, they measure in at 6.3 inches diagonally. That’s 0.75 inches bigger than the Galaxy Note II’s display, and 1.3 inches bigger than the original Galaxy Note’s display.

At which point do we stop calling this handset a smartphone, and start calling it a tablet?

The smartphone market has proven to be incredibly lucrative for a small number of companies — Apple and Samsung are the first that spring to mind — while others struggle to maintain a sizable market share. Dell is one that has now decided it cannot see itself becoming a successful player, and so the company is turning its back on Android and exiting the smartphone business. It will not be releasing any new handsets during 2013.

I think it’s great that Sony has chosen to certify third-party Android handsets for PlayStation Mobile; the Japanese company could quite easily have made the gaming service exclusive to its own Xperia devices. And this morning it has welcomed another three HTC handsets to the PlayStation Mobile family, doubling the total number of HTC devices that are supported by the service.

Chinese electronics manufacturer Oppo has unveiled its latest smartphone today, and it’s set to give high-end Android handsets a run for their money. It’s called the Find 5, and it packs a 5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and 2GB of RAM. And the impressive specifications don’t stop there.

HTC has added another smartphone to its One family this morning, this time catering to those with a taste for mid-range devices that don’t break the bank. It’s called the One SV, and it’s headed to EE — the United Kingdom’s first and only 4G carrier — with 4G connectivity in the coming weeks.
