Apple’s quest for litigation has resulted in a few wins and a few loses. However, it would seem the big picture isn’t looking so good for Apple. The very patents Apple has been attempting to assert in its litigation crusade are now coming under high scrutiny and slowly being invalidated.

The European Commission’s Vice President for Competition Policy, Joaquín Almunia, has confirmed that it will charge Samsung “very soon” in an antitrust patent case after the Korean electronics giant broke competition rules by filing patent-infringement lawsuits against Apple. Samsung has been under investigation since January for a possible breach of antitrust rules, and earlier this week, it dropped all of its injunction requests against Apple in Europe.

Galaxy S III

The Samsung Galaxy S III’s Premium Suite upgrade has begun its rollout in the United Kingdom, just over two weeks after it first arrived in Poland. The update is reaching international handsets first with the GT-I9300 model number, and it introduces a whole host of new features — including things like Multi Window, Page Buddy, a Facebook ticker for your lock screen, and lots more.

The U887 is a new smartphone that’s been leaked by China’s TENAA, and according to reports, it’s hoping to give budget-minded Android users the chance to own a larger smartphone without paying larger prices.

Samsung has vowed to patch a major vulnerability discovered in its Exynos kernel that could allow certain Android devices to be wiped or bricked by a malicious application. The flaw was discovered earlier this week, and the Korean company promises to release a software update to address it “as quickly as possible.”
