Nokia Normandy

The Nokia Normandy is all but confirmed and slated for a launch on February 24 during MWC, and now a new report from China claims that this will be the first of several Android-powered smartphones from Nokia throughout 2014.

According to a report just published by The Wall Street Journal, Nokia, the Finnish smartphone maker, is set to finally show off its first Android-powered device, codenamed the Normandy, at the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona.

Samsung has agreed a patent licensing deal with Ericsson to end an ongoing legal dispute that began back in 2012. The South Korean company will pay royalty costs and an initial licensing fee to gain access to numerous Ericsson patents covering LTE, UMTS, and GSM network standards.

Nokia Normandy, Nokia’s first Android-powered smartphone, has appeared on a Vietnamese retailer’s website ahead of its official debut. The much-anticipated device is expected to show its face for the first time at MWC next month, and it could launch with support for a number of Google services — including the Google Play Store.

Nokia has today announced that it will hold a press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

Normally we wouldn’t take much notice of that here at Cult of Android — given Nokia doesn’t make any Android-powered devices — but with mounting speculation surrounding Normandy, Nokia’s affordable Android smartphone, that could be about to change.
