T-Mobile U.S. is now accepting pre-orders for Google’s latest flagship smartphone, the Nexus 5, on its official website. As expected, the handset’s total pricing is pretty similar to other operators on the market, however, T-Mobile is the only carrier to offer the device with a $41.99 down payment, followed by 24 monthly payments of $17, which adds up to a rather hefty $449.

The Nexus 5, as its name suggests, is the fifth smartphone to be born into the Nexus family, and by far the most powerful. Its 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 1080p display, and 2GB of RAM make it a big improvement over even last year’s Nexus 4.

If you have a newer Nexus device, or the Google Edition Galaxy S4 or HTC One, then you won’t have to wait too long for the Android 4.4 KitKat update. But it’s safe to say everyone else is in for a lengthy wait. Yesterday, Google unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Nexus 5, and as expected the handset will ship running 4.4 KitKat, Android’s brand new version of software when it leaves the warehouse. In an effort to make life a little bit easier for developers Google has uploaded the official Android 4.4 factory images to its website so they can tinker with the Nexus 5’s ROM till their heart’s content prior to receiving the handset.

Given Google’s apparent disregard for secrecy when it comes to the new Nexus 5, you won’t be surprised to see that the device is already being unboxed all over the globe ahead of its official unveiling.

We already know what it’s going to look like and almost every piece of hardware that’s packed into it, of course, and now we get to take a sneak peek at some of the new features built into Android 4.4 KitKat, too — including an “iCloud for Android” backup service.
