Google is preparing to drop its Nexus devices in favor of Google Play Edition smartphones and tablets in 2015, according to Russian tipster Eldar Murtazin. It’s thought third-party manufacturers don’t like competing with Nexus price tags, which could also be hurting sales of Google’s Motorola handsets.

Looking to pick up some official accessories for your Nexus devices? Well, now’s a great time to splash some cash, because Google has slashed 25% off many of them for a limited time. The sale includes all cases for the Nexus 5 and the latest Nexus 7, but those with a Nexus 10 will be disappointed.

Earlier this week, Google released the Android 4.4.2 OTA update for all the Nexus devices it currently supports. Unlike the Android 4.4.1 update that was rolled out last week, the latest update to KitKat only fixed a few under-the-hood bugs and patched a major security loophole.

The roll-out of the Android 4.4.2 OTA update has been pretty quick from Google’s side and chances are you must have already received the OTA update notification on your device. However, if you are rooted, the OTA update will fail to install on your Nexus device.

The latest build (KOT49H) of Google’s recently updated operating system, 4.4.2 KitKat, is now officially available to download for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. However, this update doesn’t use Android’s standard over-the-air (OTA) upgrade process. Instead, you will have to download the 4.4.2 factory images and install them on your device via the search engine giants Developer Platform.

It was widely expected that Google would be unveiling the successor to the Nexus 10 as well, when it announced the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat. However, its been a month since Google put the Nexus 5 up for sale, but there have been no signs of a Nexus 10 successor being launched.

Well, it looks like Google is either done with 10-inch Nexus tablet form-factor, or it is on the verge of releasing a successor sometime soon.
