Verizon has started rolling out an over-the-air (OTA) update to its carrier-branded variant of HTC’s previous flagship smartphone, the One (M7). This upgrade brings a handful of new features and stability improvements, in addition to the much-anticipated Android 4.4.3 software build.

Huawei’s new Ascend G7 isn’t its only device that was inspired by the iPhone, it seems. At IFA 2014 in Berlin today, the Chinese company also announced a new phablet — the 6-inch Ascend Mate 7 — which has a one-touch fingerprint scanner that offers almost instant verification just like Apple’s.

Its fragile glass display is usually the first thing that breaks when you drop your smartphone, and getting it repaired can prove pretty costly. But some manufacturers will give you your first screen replacement absolutely free — such as HTC. Google is going one step further and offering Nexus 5 owners a replacement handset when they break their screen — but only if the device meets its strict criteria.

HTC didn’t disappoint when it announced the new Desire 820 at IFA in Berlin this morning. Despite being a midrange device, this handset has a super speedy 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core (that’s eight cores!) processor. It’s also one of HTC’s largest Desire handsets with a 5.5-inch display, and it’s available in a number of pretty colors.

HTC has teamed up with Google to give selected smartphone owners up to 100GB of Google Drive storage absolutely free for two years. The offer applies to those with a One M8, Desire 816, and the Desire 610 — plus a number of popular devices that were launched last year. But there are some caveats.
