HTC looks to be preparing a new flagship Android smartphone for 2013, and leaked specifications for the device suggest it’s well worth getting excited about. It’s codenamed the HTC M7, and it boasts a plethora of cutting-edge components — some of which haven’t been introduced to a smartphone before, such as its 4.7-inch 1080p display, which boasts a pixel density 40% greater than that of the iPhone 5.

HTC often brings its latest smartphones to Europe before they go global, but that hasn’t been the case with the company’s first 1080p offering. The HTC J Butterfly made its debut in Japan first, then came to the United States as the Droid DNA weeks later. Europeans got excited when the Taiwanese company announced the international version — the Butterfly — last week, but it seems their dreams have already been shattered.

The HTC Butterfly isn’t coming to Europe, after all.

Despite its lack of LTE, the Nexus 4 has been hugely popular.

Google’s new Nexus 4 smartphone has been a hugely popular handset since making its debut back in November, but supply issues have somewhat spoiled what should have been a successful launch. When the handset is made available through Google Play, it doesn’t take long for stock to disappear again, and those who do get an order in on time are forced to wait weeks for their device to arrive.

Dan Cobley, managing director of Google U.K. & Ireland, says the “scarce” supplies from LG are “unacceptable.” He’s issued an “unreserved apology” to Nexus 4 customers, but says Google hopes to fulfill “pre-Christmas” delivery promises by sending out a new batch of handsets this week.

There’s a good chance your next smartphone’s going to have a 1080p display. Since HTC announced the J Butterfly in Japan a couple months ago, it seems every handset vendor is focused on bringing a full high-definition display to their next flagship. ZTE won’t be an exception, according to the latest rumor, which claims the Chinese company is planning a new 5-inch smartphone called the ZTE Grand S for CES 2013 next month.

The United Kingdom is a little late to 4G — just a few months ago, 4G networks didn’t exist. Now it has one, EE, which is quickly trying to expand its 4G coverage across the country. It began its rollout in 11 major cities, and the company has announced today that it will be reaching an additional 17 by March 2013.
