ZTE Planning New 5-Inch 1080p Smartphone For CES 2013 [Rumor]

There’s a good chance your next smartphone’s going to have a 1080p display. Since HTC announced the J Butterfly in Japan a couple months ago, it seems every handset vendor is focused on bringing a full high-definition display to their next flagship. ZTE won’t be an exception, according to the latest rumor, which claims the Chinese company is planning a new 5-inch smartphone called the ZTE Grand S for CES 2013 next month.

In addition to its 5-inch 1080p display, the Grand S is expected to offer a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and “at least” 16GB of internal storage. Phandroid reports it’ll also have an 8-megapixel camera, which could be considered disappointing with 12- and 13-megapixel sensors becoming increasingly popular with next-generation devices.

ZTE will reportedly claim that the Grand S is the “world’s thinnest” 5-inch smartphone with a full HD display, though the company only has the HTC Butterfly, J Butterfly, and Droid DNA to compete with at this point. The Grand S is expected to be made out of “unusual ceramic material.”

It’s unclear how accurate these details are at this point, but if the Grand S makes its debut at CES as expected, we won’t have to wait long before we find out officially.
