HP appears to be gearing up to launch a new Chromebook 11 that is already being sold in Australia ahead of its official unveiling. The new notebook is distinctly different to the existing Chromebook 11 in terms of design, looking instead like a smaller version of the Chromebook 14.

When I think about buying a new computer, my first concern is whether I want Windows or OS X. I almost always choose the latter, but a number of PC manufacturers are hoping to turn more and more of us onto Android instead.

We’ve seen Android-powered notebooks and desktops from the likes of Acer and Asus, and now HP looks set to continue the trend with the Slatebook 14 — a new laptop powered solely by the world’s biggest mobile operating system.

HP unveiled its budget-friendly Slate 7 back in February, 2013, and two months later the device was available to purchase in the U.S. from several retailers for $129. However, if you haven’t had the opportunity or the wherewithal to pick one up before now, it might interest you to know that Walmart is currently offering the device with a $30 discount — so you can pick one up for $99.

In an effort to enter the booming budget tablet segment, HP has just launched its new 1401 tablet in the U.S. It doesn’t come with a very impressive hardware sheet, but makes up for it with the pricing. Voxox, a VoIP company with feature-packed iOS and Android apps, today gobbled up Israeli-based PokeTALK, a competitor with a similar main focus: cheap long-distance calling.

Over the next three months, PokeTALK’s service will be phased out as Voxox absorbs PokeTALK’s weighty, 600,000-strong user base (the company will toss users a bone in the form of 100 free minutes if users stick with Voxox).
