Just this morning we reported that Nexus 5 handsets had already been unboxed by users all over the globe — despite the fact that Google hasn’t even unveiled it yet. That’s because stock is now making its way to retailers, and according to one source at Carphone Warehouse in the U.K., Google’s big announcement could come today.

The relatively new U.S. operator, Republic Wireless is holding a contest on its official Facebook page, in which it plans to give away what it calls a “Moto X Prize Pack,” consisting of a Moto X handset, 12 months of free service from the carrier and an impressive package of accessories.

Google may be taunting us by holding onto its Android 4.4 launch event for as long as it possibly can, but there are plenty of signs to suggest it’s right around the corner. A Google Glass user in California may have become the first to get a ticket for using the wearable while driving. Cecilia Adabie was stopped by a Highway Patrol officer last night then summoned to the superior court for “driving with monitor visible to driver.”

The ticket has sparked debate over whether or not it should be legal to use Google Glass while behind the wheel.

While we’ve seen plenty of pictures of the upcoming Nexus 5 in recent weeks, we had been waiting for Google to unveil its full list of specifications during its long-awaited Android 4.4 KitKat event. But thanks to Canadian carrier Wind Mobile, the wait is over.

The company has prematurely erected its Nexus 5 pre-registration page on Facebook, which reveals the Nexus 5’s impressive list of specifications.
