It’s Sunday, the time of the week when Cult of Android brings you its report on some of the very best apps we have been using throughout the past week.

This week we have been trying out a great photo sharing app, a reliable instant messaging app, a festive live wallpaper and a useful digital clock widget.

Nexus-4-KitKat

Google has been pretty slow in rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat OTA update for the Nexus 4. While the OTA started rolling out a couple of days ago, majority of the Nexus 4 owners are yet to get the update. The good news is that the download link of the OTA update has been grabbed by a samaritan on the Internet, giving impatient Nexus 4 owners the chance to install the KitKat update on their device right away.

The Google Play Store has gotten a nice new update this week that makes it easier for tablet owners to find apps and games that are properly optimized for their device. A new “designed for tablets” section is now displayed by default when browsing the store, while apps that aren’t optimized for larger displays carry a “designed for phones” label.

HBO-Go-Nexus-5

The HBO Go apps for Android and iOS have today been updated with support for Google’s Chromecast. The feature works on Android smartphones and tablets running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and above, and on iPhones and iPads running iOS 6 and above.

If you prefer to buy your Android apps from Amazon rather than Google, then you’ll be pleased to know that the retail giant today rolled out a new Appstore client for Android that delivers a redesigned user interface and significant performance improvements.
