Mozilla’s Linux based open-source operating system — Firefox OS — has met with relatively lukewarm response from the community. Initial Firefox OS running handsets have been released by relatively unknown OEMs and the immature nature of the OS has not helped much.

The open-nature of the OS makes it perfect for porting it to existing Android devices as evident from the ports for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and the HTC One.

Mozilla may have its own Firefox OS smartphone platform now, but that hasn’t stopped it from teaming up with EverythingMe to develop a new Firefox Launcher for Android. Its aim is to make it easy for you to “discover the content you want in any moment,” and it seamlessly integrates with the Firefox web browser for Android.

Geeksphone-Revolution

Geeksphone, the Spanish smartphone startup behind the world’s first Firefox OS smartphones, has revealed more about its up-coming Revolution handset ahead of its February 14 launch.

Of course, its main selling point is its ability to dual-boot both Android and Firefox OS, but the handset also offers a 4.7-inch qHD display, an Intel Atom processor, and an 8-megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video.

Spanish mobile operator Telefonica has partnered with Microsoft in a bid to boost Windows Phone 8 adoption. The two companies plan to launch an “enhanced marketing effort” that will fight back against “the current duopoly” of Android and iOS.
