Firefox OS Ported To The Nexus 5

firefox_os

Mozilla’s Linux based open-source operating system — Firefox OS — has met with relatively lukewarm response from the community. Initial Firefox OS running handsets have been released by relatively unknown OEMs and the immature nature of the OS has not helped much.

The open-nature of the OS makes it perfect for porting it to existing Android devices as evident from the ports for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and the HTC One.

Joining this list today is the Nexus 5, all thanks to the hard work of developer ValoXisThe initial release of the port is stable enough for testing use but cannot be used as a daily driver since it has quite a few deal breaking bugs. Either ways, this port is a great way to experience Firefox OS without investing in any new handset.

Below is a list of what does not work in the port -:

  • Signal/Network
  • Bluetooth
  • Camera
  • Wi-Fi

Installation is like any other custom ROM but requires your Nexus 5 to have an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP installed. Head over to this XDA thread for the download link of the port.
